Week 4-Communication

When comparing how I assessed myself compared to how the two others assessed me, I was most surprised how they evaluated me in the verbal aggression part.  It surprised me the most because they scored me to be quite verbally aggressive when communicating.  It opened my eyes to be more alert to my verbal actions and has given me a big clue I might want to really focus on the words I use.

I also gained that I am highly anxious when communicating with others I do not know and in small group settings.  Also gained that I am people oriented person when listening to others which shows that I compassionate and care what others have to say.  These will influence my professional and personal life in many ways.  It makes me want to force myself to be part of small group meetings at work to learn to have my voice and start to gain more confidence in what I have to say.  It also impacts me to know that I will continue to be a good listener and be compassionate.

  1. Communication is a when people perceive us differently. Being aware and cautious of what you say can help curb their negative perspectives. Although it is easier said than done :)

  2. Hi Lynette,

Thank you for your post. It is good to get feedback that helps us improve and be better people. I believe this strategy of using small groups to gain confidence is a good strategy. Good luck.

  3. Hello Lynette,

I too found it valuable this week to have the opportunity to learn more about how not only we perceive ourselves in communicating but how others perceive us. I find it important to have opportunities such as these to reflect on perhaps some of our more negative communication flaws so we may adapt and learn to become more affluent in our communication, allowing us to increase our professionalism, all while increasing our self-esteem. While it may be difficult at first to break our personal habits, the end results will be priceless. Thank you for being so honest and sharing your results with us!

  4. I too was evaluated as being verbally aggressive by my peers. So I found myself being very careful of how I spoke all week. I would play in my head how I was going to speak to someone before I spoke to them, especially if it was an employee that needed to be redirected. Thanks for sharing and being honest.
